Rope Incense is traditionally made by the indigenous Newari community of Nepal, and is now the most common form of incense in this Himalayan country. Crafted using traditional methods passed down through generations; finely powdered dried herbs and botanicals are wrapped into thin strips of lokta paper, which is gently twisted into rope.
Our rope incense comes with a handmade clay burner that will hold the rope tip, or it can be hung on a hook. Burn rope incense as you would the more commonly known stick incense to release its earthy aroma.

Our rope incense is handmade with love by Tara & her family run business in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. Each handmade Lokta paper tube comes with 8 ropes of traditionally made Nepalese rope incense and handmade clay burner. This wonderful family has been making natural incense for over 20 years, and are inspired by the traditions and nature of their home.
In Nepal, burning incense is an important daily part of the culture, used in daily rituals for mental and spiritual well being at temples, monasteries, public spaces, and the home. Our partners in Nepal studied traditional Buddhist incense making techniques under Lama Dorjee, and continue to use his recipes and techniques today.
This incense is natural, non-toxic, and handmade with locally sourced ingredients, from herbs to handmade paper for packaging.
The incense ropes are around 4" long, and burn approximately 20 mins.
